Along the Track in Australia and Overseas - From the late 1950s to the early 1970s.

This is the last in a series of archived DVDs looking at the railway trackside scene in Australia and some overseas countries at various times from the late 1950s to the early 1970s.  The subject of the series is predominantly steam in normal, everyday service, before the final moves to full dieselisation and/or electrification.  Steam Times 5 looks at the Australian states (apart from NSW), UK, New Zealand and Germany.  It also includes some scenes from Italy, Turkey, India and the USA, and a “bonus” look at two large piston engined aircraft in action.

The programme is divided into nine parts:  The first looks at Queensland, which is then followed by Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia, UK (including scenes in Italy, Turkey, India and the USA).  New Zealand and Germany. The last part is the “bonus” referred to above.  This DVD is not for the pseudo enthusiast, interested only in “home grown’ engines from his/her own State or Country!  Steam Time 5 was made for the real enthusiast, who is keen to sample the familiar, yet infinitely varied sight and sound of steam, no matter where it was working!  As mentioned above, there are also two scenes portraying a Sandringham Flying Boat and a Douglas DC4.

Steam Times 5 contains 176 shots featuring 60 different classes of steam locomotives.  There is no narration and no music in this production: the only sounds are of the trains and the countryside they run through.  Scenes are numbered briefly and there are comprehensive background Notes provided.
