There is rare footage of exhibits, not often seen on the road, also includes a history of Sydney Transport Through the Decades. Disc Two comprises two themes. Just Australian Buses 5 by Greg Travers, marks the closure of most of Sydney’s main thoroughfare, George Street; looks at some Sydney private operators during 1970-1976; Tasmanian snapshots from 1971-2000; mostly postwar Albion double deckers and some early bus views 1911-1935. We take a walk along George Street, filming and stopping along the way, for “then and now” still photos, over a 100-year period. The Sydney Bus Museum operated a vintage bus service on the last day, alongside normal State Transit of NSW, Hillsbus, Big Bus and other operators’ services. We also see George Street from some different vantage points. In preparation for construction of the new light rail system, Australia’s busiest bus street, ceased to be, after Saturday 3 October 2015. Sydney private bus operators are visited during the 1970-1976 period, focusing on the vehicles operated, during the transition to second hand vehicles on heavy chassis. Twin Steel Through Kenya 2011

Preserved Steam & Regular Trains Vidrail takes us to Kenya during May 2011 to join a Geoff’s Trains preserved steam tour, which commenced in Nairobi with a visit the Rift Valley Railway's central workshops. Here, apart from diesel locomotive and rolling stock repairs, Kenya Railways Museum working steam locomotives for the tour were being serviced. These comprised a 4-8-0, No. 2409 and the huge Garratt, No. 5918, “Mt. Gelai”, the largest of this type for the metre gauge. Another locomotive, No. 3020, “Nyaturu” a 2-8-4, had already been sent down to Naivasha in preparation for a mixed train excursion the following day back to Nairobi, up the Great Rift Valley. This 120km journey from Naivasha sees No. 3020 tackle a climb of nearly 600m, which takes up most of the day. This is considered to be one of the world’s great railway journeys. Back in Nairobi, there is chance to see commuter train action around the station, together with freig..

150 Years of South African Railways Part 2 - Modern Traction Era

This epic two part DVD programme commences with a review of the ancient steam locomotives of the very first standard gauge railway companies in the Cape and Natal colonies, followed by the development of steam motive power under the various regional governments in South Africa. This followed the decision, taken in 1875, to continue railway construction according to a narrower track gauge, namely the so called “Cape” (1067mm). The main operations took place under the Cape, Natal and Transvaal government railway administrations (CGR, NGR and NZASM). The latter, together with the Orange Free State railway, were operated by the Central South African Railways or CSAR after the end of the Anglo-Boer War, in 1902. Following amalgamation of the previous four regional governments into the Union of South Africa in 1910, all the regional railways were further consolidated into the South African Railways or SAR. This state transport organisation has recently been restructured, a..

With a record-breaking grain harvest, there was competition for track space between coal, grain, containers and passengers, all struggling over the Great Dividing Range, through the notorious Ardglen tunnel. We filmed for five days in July 2017, mainly between Scone and Breeza, in Northern NSW. Follow the Southern Shorthaul Railroad, new and old EMD and Alco power; see Pacific National and Aurizon coal and grain trains, together with others in various liveries. Most trains, in the UP direction, were banked from Chilcott’s Creek to Ardglen-Murrurundi. Featured are, two different loaded SSR grains trains, tackling the approach to Ardglen tunnel with five locomotives on one train and six on the other. There is much locomotive noise. ..

Just Australian Buses 4

Just Australian Buses 4 by Greg Travers, celebrates the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games bus transport and marks the operation of NSW Government buses in Newcastle (1935-2017). Cine film, analogue video footage and some still photography are used. A guest videographer is John Beckhaus supported by still photos, from John Ward in a short chapter on Brisbane’s trolleybuses. To support the Olympic Games, buses came to Sydney from statewide locations, the Australian Capital Territory, across all of Victoria, with vehicles from south-east Queensland and South Australia. In an era of standardization, never again will there be such a mixture of vehicle types and colour schemes all operating together. This is rare footage supported with detailed maps and documents to explain how it all worked. From 1 July 2017, a private operator took over the day-to-day operation of the NSW Newcastle government buses. The buses themselves and depots remain in government ownership. We take ..
