USA Rails 1 Special Edition

This Special 2 Disc Extended Version of the original USA Rails 1 features additional trains from Kansas City, San Diego and Fullerton. Trains that were heavily edited in the original USA Rails are shown in their entirety, plus we take a brief look at the San Diego Model Railway Club in action. Featured locations are West Bottoms in Kansas City Missouri, Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego, the Amtrak Stations in San Diego and Fullerton California and the Amtrak stop in Benson Arizona. A lot more trains, a lot more noise... lots of L - O - N - G, full length run-bys “No narration, no graphics, no introduction... Straight into it.” Railroads featured are the Union Pacific, the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and the passenger carrier Amtrak with high speed freights to sleek Superliners. Canadian Thunder Special Edition

This special 2 disc version of the original Canadian Thunder features uncut trains that were edited out in the original to accommodate a one hour format. No narration, graphics or subtitles – just two hours of trains. Edmonton, Alberta plays host to Walker Yard, a massive facility operated by the Canadian National Railway that stretches the entire width of thecity - an amazing 6 kilometres from end to end. The facility is typical of a North American rail yard: loco repair shops, a hump yard, control tower, and with over 70 mainline trains either departing, arriving or passing through here a day, there’s enough traffic to keep it busy 24/7. In this production, we spend time at both ends of the yard to capture the constant flow of trains flooding through: from unit phosphate to double stack intermodal trains – they’re all here. Run-by shots of full length trains are included. No narration - the trains do most of the talking.  TWO&n..

Waiouru Wanderings

Taihape to Tangiwai. Welcome to Waiouru Wanderings, where we take a break from the cities to take in the scenery and serenity of the central North Island, where we’ll see New Zealand’s rail carrier TranzRail in action. Two weeks at Waiouru in April 2002 with a lot of spare time and a video camera, coupled with 8 days of glorious autumn weather has resulted in this collection of shots of Tranzrailactivity -limited to an area bounded by Taihape to the south, and Tangiwai to the north. In this video, we make a geographical progression northwards starting at Taihape, a passing loop at Hihitahi, a generous amount of footage (both day and night) from in and around Waiouru, then onto Tangiwai and Karioi. We then witness the rescue of a stalled train on the uphill grade out ofTaihape. The lighting from the amber skies during sunrise and sunset enhances the Tranzraillivery, coupled with a snow capped Mount Ruapehu as a backdrop, the trains take on a whole new appearance. ..

Franklin to Hamilton. Welcome to Waikato Hotshots - Franklin to Hamilton, where we take a trackside look at Tranzrail hard at work hauling people, coal and containers on the North Island Main Trunk Railway in an area bounded by Hamilton City to the south, and Franklin County to the north. We begin at Hamilton Railway Station where we witness the changing of the locomotives on the southbound Overlander passenger express, and take in the sights around the city tunnel, rail bridge and marshalling yards. Then we catch up with an empty coal train as it heads for the Solid Energy coal mine at Rotowaro, west of Huntly, and the Huntly East Coal Mine where we are treated to a glimpse of the loading process. We  follow these coal trains on their journey to the Glenbrook Steel Mill as they thunder through the small towns, rolling hills and plains of the Waikato heartland. Outbound from the Steel Mill is a steel coil train on its way to Mt. Maunganui that we chase through  Fr..

Missouri Revisited. Hot off the heels of USA 1 & 2, EJ Videos is pleased to bring even more trackside rail action from the state of Missouri, USA. During November of 2003, a day was spent in Kansas City Missouri, and four days in Saint Joseph Missouri, about 50 miles north of ‘KC’. In this third instalment, we concentrate in North Kansas City just north of the Missouri River where the Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern cross paths and other lines share trackage rights. We then take in the hotspots all along the city limits of the City of Saint Joseph where the BNSF main line is shared with the Union Pacific Railroad. Coal trains are clearly predominant through here, where they constantly use the huge 8 mile passing loop to meet and overtake. SD70MAC fans are well catered for. Run-by shots of full length trains are included. No narration - the trains do all the talking. ..

America's Mightiest. Witness the might of America’s rail power in the form of CSX Transportation, the Union Pacific Railroad and the national passenger carrier Amtrak. We kick off in the city of Alexandria Virginia, where there’s action a plenty from CSX, Amtrak and the Virginia Railway Express. The Amtrak station here is a popular haunt for railfans and no wonder -18 trains in six hours with the busiest day being a Sunday ideally suits the most avid of train watchers. From here we head a few miles north into Washington DC to catch some more rail action from CSX and Amtrak. We then take a big jump westward to the small town of Benson in southern Arizona where endless blue skies, awe inspiring scenery and the air horn blast of high speed freights are an everyday occurrence. The Union Pacific Railroad knows how to turn on a good show when the speed limit through town is 60 mph! Run-by shots of full length trains are included. No narration - the trains do all t..

USA Rails - Union Pacific Manifests BLU-RAY

With the arrival of intermodal containerisation, many thought the days of the boxcar were numbered. However with railroads recognising that the smaller customers requiring door to door service were just as important as the big customers with their massive unit trains, the boxcar still lives on – along with many other types of freight cars that were presumed destined for the scrap heap. In a day where intermodal is king, manifest trains with their variety of freight cars, their various reporting marks and colours, are a special sight to behold. This production covers Union Pacific railroading through California and features nothing but the highly sought after manifest train, or “mixed freight". Filmed over March and April of 2014, this production is living proof that the manifest train plays an important role in todays modern railroad. ..

Route 66 - the Mother Road. Immortalised in Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath", this non-descript two lane pot holed, cracked and worn road represents hardship, grit determination and the pursuit of the American Dream. Now re-named as the National Trails Highway, it’s history still lives on with small towns that were by-passed by Interstate 40 still clinging on to life by embracing the heritage that is, Route 66. Sharing the landscape alongside is the BNSF Transcon, which also passes through these same small towns. We commence our coverage just east of Barstow at Daggett, and continue east to Ludlow and Goffs, pausing at Siberia - aptly named for its desert surrounds and shimmering heat. On the border of Arizona we finish off at Park Moabi - a riverside resort for those whose lives revolve around the Colorado River. ..

In the middle we have the commuter services that move people from the outer suburbs to the central city and various points along the way. This production provides a glimpse of the commuter services of San Francisco, Los Angeles, Oakland and Emeryville California. From South San Francisco we’ll see Caltrain action, from Fullerton and Commerce city we’ll see Metrolink and Amtrak California and from Oakland and Emeryville more Amtrak California action. USA Rails - Cajon - Frost to Colton

The journey through Cajon Pass takes the railfan to two must see locations: the under / over at Frost, Victorville, and the Pepper Ave overpass across the Union Pacific yard at Colton. In between these two points is Cajon Pass in all its railfanning glory. This production covers Frost, Cajon Junction, Mormon Rocks, Summit, Colton Yard and a relatively new development for railfans - Silverwood. Silverwood is an alternative to the infamous Hill 582 and provides easier access and closer proximity to the trains. Situated on an elevated island formed from the natural landscape, Silverwood was created by a small group of railfans and offers excellent views of all four tracks. The Mormon Rocks are probably the most photographed natural rock formations in the USA, and those in the know will be there to capture the morning light on these amazing formations, providing a stunning back drop to the continuous parade of rolling thunder. Today, passenger services that run from Wellington to Masterton are a common sight each day, but beyond here to Woodville, traffic volumes are low. Roll on Christmas 2010, where for two weeks over the holiday period, freights that normally ran along the NIMT were diverted along the ‘Y’ to cater for essential track maintenance on the main trunk. This meant that up to nine freight trains a day were running on tracks that would normally see only one train a week. Through the Gorge and Across the Bay BLU-RAY

Commencing in 1872, construction of the Napier section of the PNGL (Palmerston North Gisborne Line) faced many uphill battles. Much of the landscape was dense vegetation and swampy lowlands and although in some parts was easy, in the later years of it’s construction, engineers were faced with deep valleys that needed spanning withlong viaducts. Add to that the long depression of 1873-79 and the final engineering obstacle of the Manawatu Gorge, the fact that this line was completed in 1891 using pre 20th century techniques is a marvel in itself. The rail link from Napier to the hub of Palmerston North is vital to New Zealand’s rail network, and vital to the Hawkes Bay economy. Steam on Parade BLU-RAY

Steam locomotives are a drawcard for young and old, and whenever these machines get fired up for public display, the crowds are sure to gather. This production showcases three such locomotives: Feilding Steam’s Wab 794, Steam Incorporated’s JA 1271 and Mainline Steam’s J 1211. We begin our trackside journey at Feilding, where The Overlander commences it’s leg to Taihape behind Wab 794. However during the winter of 2010, Mainline Steam’s J 1211 was used when the Wab was unavailable. We follow this special run on several occasions to capture some spectacular steam rail action in some equally spectacular scenery. Along the way to Taihape, we’ll capture both Wab 794 and J 1211 hauling The Overlander from numerous locations. Seligman Sub - Kingman to Flagstaff

The Burlington Northern Santa Fe's Seligman Subdivision crosses the Mojave Desert from Needles California to Winslow Arizona – a distance of over 290 miles through some of the best scenery the southwest has to offer. With the entire line double tracked and over 70 trains a day plying the rails, there's hardly a dull moment with double stacked containers, unit grain and mixed freights roaring across the desert. New Zealand railfan Michael Adams visited the USA in 2009 and 2010 and spent many days filming some intense rail action. This one hour production is a collection of some of the shots he obtained during these trips and features the BNSF hauling vast quantities of freight across Arizona’s Mojave Desert. Locations covered include Kingman, Peach Springs, Seligman and Flagstaff. All footage is rural, and Michael makes every attempt to include some excellent Arizona scenery. ..
