Through July and August of 2011, Dave Simpson and three friends spent 40 days on the road railfanning the USA and Canada.

The territory they covered in this time was immense: from California to Washington, British Columbia, Alberta to Nebraska, Wyoming, Arizona and back to California.

This series of the Railfan Diaries – the 2011 Adventures – features the video footage shot by Dave on their adventure and is presented in the geographical sequence in which it was shot.

With the aid of a good atlas or on-line mapping tool, you can follow their journey and get a real feel of the adventure they had.

Volume 16 covers the Canadian phase of this journey and kicks off at Yale, British Columbia.

The group then continue on and head north along the banks of the Fraser river, capturing footage along the way from Boston Bar, Lytton and the infamous twin bridges at Cisco.

Our intrepidtravellers then head east, taking in the rail action at Field, Golden, and Morants Curve, ending on the shores of Wapta Lake, Alberta.

Canada has its own hazards for railfans – watch for the black bear and cubs at Field.
