The M Class Story

  • $30.00

During 1952, Tasmania saw the arrival of 10 M class 4-6-2 "Pacific" type steam locomotives from Robert Stephenson and Hawthorns of Darlington, England, and became the final class of steam power to enter service with the Tasmanian Government Railways.

The class worked state wide on a variety of trains including freight and light express passenger runs until the 1970's when all of the M class were withdrawn from service.

Fortunately all 10 examples survived into preservation, and this DVD looks at the class in detail.

Highlights include:

Historic colour photos from the TGR era
Streamlined R class in Hobart
Detailed technical information
All class members from M1 - M10
Conversion to the MA class
1971 Tasmanian Centenary celebrations
The story of M2
The service careers of M4 and M5
Preservation scenes with M4 and M5

And much more!
