Tasmania's Rail Freight Network - Volume 1

  • $29.95

Join Rail Media Productions as we explore Tasmania's rail freight network in recent times with a variety of train types including: coal, paper, logs and intermodal.

In volume 1, we take a look at the South Line between April and August 2016 with single, double and triple headed loco combinations.

We cover the new Tasrail TR class at scenic and popular locations such as Rekuna, Campania, Colebrook, Rhyndaston, Andover, Antill Ponds, Fingal, Avoca and much more!

The devastating floods of June caused major problems across the state, and the Tasrail network was badly hit to. We follow the first train starting its journey from the Brighton Transport Hub, shortly after the South line was reopened as far as Conara.

We also cover a number of trains running to alternative timetables while the remainder of the mainlines were repaired, this includes a rare early afternoon cross at Colebrook with double headed TR class on both trains.

The DQ class also make an appearance on a ballast train, and we follow the action to variety of locations as the locos bring back memories of the older classes of motive power which were once a common site throughout the state.

We chase the action from the northern portal of the Rhyndaston tunnel, and end near Tea Tree.

The next day the DQ's return north with a very heavy load, and provide lots of great sound and vision as they battle the steep gradients.

The third and final day of filming the DQ class on the ballast train show the locos returning south for another ballast drop, and we follow the action to Cleveland, Ross and finally Tunbridge.

We then moved to the 21st of July 2016, and cover the very first train to run on the Western Line between Deloraine and Railton, which includes the first crossing of the repaired bridges at Kimberley which were badly damaged by the floods.

With the trains now running normally again, we set up at Relbia to catch the 2 DQ class once again heading south with another ballast train.

We return to the South line, and cover a number of train movements until mid-August, when the DQ class returned south to help with a shortage of TR's.

We follow DQ 2001 as it heads south with train 35, and during the same morning we move to the Fingal line where DQ 2012 double heads with a TR class on the coal train.

Also, the site of 3 TR class running together is shown twice.

This is a show not to be missed!
