Winter on Tasmanian Railways 2017

  • $29.95

The winter of 2017 provided much action from both the mainline and the preserved network.

We begin with the return of steam locomotive M4 to service at the Don River Railway following its 2 yearly boiler inspection. We present a variety of scenes taken in glorious winter conditions on both the first and second Sundays of the locos re-entry into traffic. Although the weather was beautiful for most of the time, a downpour on the second weekend made for atmospheric conditions as the loco backed off the shed. Sister M class Pacific number 5 worked shuttle trips at the Tasmanian Transport Museum for the annual Model Train Show in August. We watch M5 being prepared for traffic outside the roundhouse and follow the loco throughout the morning. We also see the museums other operational steam loco C22 working in the month of June with 2 restored mainline carriages.

On the Tasrail network, we look at trains operating on the Western and South lines which include the rare appearance of a DQ class on the cement train. The Derwent Valley Railway has come a long way over the past few years with much progress being made to returning tourist trains to the area. In June we take a tour around the society's base at New Norfolk and explore the huge collection of rolling stock throughout the property.

Not all of the train movements we covered throughout the winter have been included in this programme due to time constraints, but we will have the remainder available on another DVD in the near future. Also some of the scenes this programme were filmed in May but we felt these should be included as well.
