Camden Line

Camden Line

The video opens with exterior views of some of the historical buildings of Camden and surrounds. Included is the picturesque mansion "Camelot", and two interesting gardens, before moving on to the transport scene, with a view of coal being loaded from a motor lorry into a rail wagon at Campbelltown, around 1961. This is contrasted with coal movement and loading today, with semi- trailers along Springs Road and the Glenlea coal loader, complete with a loaded coal train of 75 tonne hoppers under the loading bin. Public passenger transport is covered next, with brief views of today's buses, the bus introduced in 1961 in competition with the train, followed by a typical passenger train towards the end of the era of the Camden line, namely a 30 class 4-6-4 tank loco hauling a single, usually empty, CCA coach. The video next takes us further back in time to 1954, when 20 class 2-6-4 tank engines were the standard motive power. We see coal trains, and passenger trains inc..

Brisbane to Maitland

Main line 1800 hp Goodwin Alcos of 44, 45 and 2000 hp 442 classes are handling the lion’s share of the work, with the occasional branchline 48 class Goodwin Alco, XPT passenger, 8201, 8202, 9002, 9004 and 81 Clyde GM locos, 629-729 2- car diesels and a Fairmont rail quad. Many have disappeared from the scene, and others recycled. The scene opens in Brisbane’s Acacia Ridge yard with Queensland Railways GM powered 1773 shunting the narrow gauge, along with a NSW 45 class doing the same on the standard Gauge. Further south, see the action inside signal boxes like Kagaru and Tamrookem, with mechanical lever frames, quaint old telephone equipment and operation of the electric staff machine, staff exchanging, and lower quadrant mechanical signals. It is like visiting a bygone era. The famous Border Loop is covered, while nearby Queensland stations have lovely old signal cabins, loco water tanks, water columns. In NSW the magnificent Casino coal stage is still there. The 45c..

3801 to Dubbo

3801 to Dubbo

In September 1991 4-6-2 No 3801 hauled its train of six cars and a van to Dubbo and beyond, for a five day tour in what was the first time a 38 had ventured into the area. The video opens with a brief look into the past, November 1983, with shiny new Clyde GM 8111, towing a dead and partly dismantled 3801 through West Ryde on its way to Newcastle, for possible restoration. The boiler rebuild did of course take place, thus making this video possible. We begin the coverage of the Dubbo trip on Thursday 19 September 1991 near the end of electrification at Lithgow, with 3801 departing for Wallerawang, where water is taken at the picturesque station and we have a brief look at some of the facilities including remains of the goods shed and hand operated crane. Strong winds and rain then ensued, so our camera resumes on a bright and sunny Sunday 22nd at Dubbo, with an early morning start showing good steam effects in the cold air as the Pacific heads for Wellington on a shuttle trip,..
