This production shows electric rail transport at work in two places which are quite close together on the western Mediterranean, but worlds apart in other ways. Mallorca's Ferrocarril de Sóller is a flourishing concern operating electric train and trams in the north-west of the island. Barcelona's Tramvia Blau is a decrepit remnant of what was once a substantial urban tramway system.

The 3ft gauge Ferrocarril de Sóller links Palma de Mallorca with Sóller, 27km to the north. Opened in 1912, it was electrified at 1200V DC by Siemens in 1929. The original motor cars still haul steam era carriages. The line is steeply graded at the mountainous northern end, and includes a 3km long tunnel under the Sierra de Alfabia. Heavy tourist traffic is now the dominant source of income. A 5km, 600V DC electric tramway connects Sóller to its port. The three original 1913 motor cars are still in use. Recently, new cars have been acquired from Lisbon.

In Barcelona, capital of nearby Catalunya, the sole survivor of the massacre of an extensive tramway system in 1971 was the Tibidabo tram, which connects with a funicular serving a giant amusement park. The original cars of 1901 work the 1.3km line, augmented by a retrucked Barcelona city tramways car. The line is marketed to tourists as the "Tramvia Blau" or Blue Tram.

This DVD includes the full content of Atencion al Tren, previously issued by Railstuff on VHS, plus 15 minutes on the Tibidabo tram and funicular. Both sections are supported by slide shows.
