Ruapehu Rails 2 BLU-RAY

Ruapehu Rails 2 BLU-RAY

Featuring trackside rail action along the North Island Main Trunk from Mataroa to Raurimu. Thundering through the heart of the Ruapehu District, New Zealand’s KiwiRail is tasked with the challenge of moving people and freight, north and south, 24 hours a day in all weather extremes. This production catches a small glimpse of that rail action on the North Island Main Trunk, with the action kicking off at the small settlement of Mataroa. Tucked in a valley away from the main roads, Mataroa is blessed with calm weather and diverse scenery, making it a favourite for railfans. From Mataroa we then head north to the Turangarere horse shoe curve, the Hihitahi passing loop, then on towards the desert town of Waiouruwhere we’re treated to a few snow scenes. We’re also treated to the pulp train being double banked – where the Karioi and Tangiwai portions are taken to Waiouruand assembled into the one train. We then continue our journey via Karioi, Ohakune, Hor..

Rangitikei Rails 5 - The Pacing Shots BLU-RAY

Nothing quite demonstrates the power of trains like being right beside one of these machines of steel when it’s hurtling along the tracks with 1000 tonnes of freight. The senses are overwhelmed with sound, smell and sight and many motorists will wind down the car window to savour the riotous racket. The next best thing to being there is to capture all of this action on video. Though the combination of years of practice, constantly refining the camera setup, good timing and on many occasions, good luck, EJ Videos is pleased to present this very loud, very dramatic compilation of pacing shots from the Rangitikei District. We capture diesel, electric and steam hauled trains right up close and personal, soaking up the sounds of steel wheels on steel rails, blasting airhorns, reverberating diesels and not to mention the unmistakable audio symphony that only a steam loco can produce. Our journey takes us from Taihape to Bunnythorpe, through rolling hills and open plains,..

Rangitikei Rails 4 BLU-RAY

2010 saw KiwiRail continue with its high paced turnout of locomotives repainted into the new “Kiwi Bold” livery. Of note were the number of EF’s now appearing on the main trunk with their new paint job. This rapid turnout of the re-painted fleet and the subsequent constant exposure of the new livery, has the KiwiRail brand firmly established in New Zealanders vocabulary. This production continues our railfanning adventures along the main trunk with the action kicking off at Bunnythorpe and proceeding north through Feilding, Marton, Porewa, Hunterville, Mangaweka, and Utiku to Taihape and features a mixture of intercity freights, milk trains and The Overlander - all being hauled by electrics and diesels. Run-by shots of full length trains are included. No narration - the trains do all the talking. All footage was filmed during 2010. ..

On Parade - Box Set BLU-RAY

Disc 1: Steam on Parade Steam locomotives are a drawcard for young and old, and whenever these machines get fired up for public display, the crowds are sure to gather. This production showcases three such locomotives: Feilding Steam’s Wab794, Steam Incorporated’s JA1271 and Mainline Steam's  J1211. We begin our trackside journey at Feilding, where The Overlander commences it’s leg to Taihape behind Wab 794. However during the winter of 2010, Mainline Steam’s J1211 was used when the Wab was unavailable. We follow this special run on several occasions to capture some spectacular steam rail action in some equally spectacular scenery. Along the way to Taihape, we’ll capture both Wab794 and J1211 hauling the Overlander from numerous locations. The program concludes with JA1271 hauling an excursion from Paekakariki to Woodville via the North Island Main Trunk to Palmerston North, through the Manawatu Gorge to Woodville and return. We capture th..

Night Movers BLU-RAY

The installation of new platform security lights at the Marton Junction has had the added advantage of providing photographers with a source of bright, white light that is ideally suited to night time photography. Even in the middle of the night, the Marton Junction can be a busy place, with many trains meeting here or passing through within minutes of each other. In this production you’ll witness several meets, including a three train meet. The New Plymouth to Auckland freight now runs through Marton, with a juggling of locos required to head this train back in the opposite direction towards Auckland. All this action and more is captured under bright, floodlit conditions. This program literally sees KiwiRail’s freight trains in a whole new light; with the distraction of scenery, traffic, people and other objects removed, the focus is solely on the trains. Run-by shots of full length trains are included. No narration - the trains do all the talking. ..

Milk Movers BLU-RAY

Railways excel at moving bulk goods, and KiwiRail is no exception when it comes to moving milk products. Using it’s customised Class OM Freight wagons fitted with stainless steel tanks, these dedicated milk trains are a common sight during the summer peak milk season. Loaded tanks from outlying plants are assembled into unit trains at Palmerston North, and heralded off to Fonterra’s plant at Whareroa, near Hawera. During the seasonal peak, up to six trains a day, seven days a week depart Palmerston North for Whareroa, and mixed in with these unit trains are empty containers and ice liners, which will return to Palmerston North loaded with processed products for export. It’s busy times ahead for KiwiRail, and you’ll see all the action trackside from the Oringi plant through the Manawatu Gorge to Palmerston North and Feilding, Marton, Wanganui, Patea and Whareroa. Liverpool and Manchester BLU-RAY

Drivers Eye View We travel aboard a Northern Rail class 156 Sprinter for an exceptionally smooth ride. This limited-stop service shows us the whole Airport Branch, the Stockport-avoiding line built as recently as 1909 and the approach and through platforms at Manchester Piccadilly followed by the elevated section through Oxford Road. We then join the very original route surveyed and built by none other than George Stephenson. The stone block permanent way has long since gone but the history is still there to be told by former Calendar anchor Alan Hardwick. Chat Moss has gone down in railway folklore as one of George Stephenson’s greatest feats, laying a railway line across a seemingly impenetrable bog. See how little it has changed today from the cab and from a helicopter flying overhead! We then travel through Rainhill over the ground covered by Stephenson’s famous Rocket - the winner of the Rainhill Locomotive Trials in 1829. Edge Hill is another place long associat..

Drivers Eye View Stranraer to Glasgow Central The 101 miles of railway between the former Ferry port of Stranraer and Glasgow Central, is one of extreme contrast. For just over half that distance the line is of single track controlled by traditional mechanical signal boxes and electric tokens. The southern half of the line is so remote that our two-car class 156 Sprinter runs for 26 miles before reaching the first intermediate station at Barrhill. We traverse two passing loops in the process, the second of which at Glenwhilly is one of the remotest in the whole of the British Isles. From Ayr, the line becomes an electrified double track for the next 40 miles into Glasgow. The contrast between the Victorian signalling and state of the art computer control inside the West of Scotland Signalling Centre at Cowlairs could hardly be greater. As well as seeing this fascinating and scenic line from the cab and signal boxes, we also see the lie of the land from the air o..
