Mossman Mill is the most northern sugar mill in Australia and the first in tropical Australia to crush over 100,000 tonnes of sugar cane in one season. The Mill Site at Mossman is located approximately 75 kilometres north of Cairns. The tramway system from fields to the mill was completed in 1899. The final link was connection of a tramway from the mill to Port Douglas, opened in 1900. Since then the tramway has gone through many changes, with expansion and contraction of the system.
This DVD showcases the various tramway operations during the diesel era of 1999, 2003, 2005 and 2010 with line-side and on-train footage. Not only do you see non stop rail action, many aspects of general sugar season operations are also shown including some harvesting, cross loading from truck to train, movements around the mill and yards plus daily in-the-field events that keep loaded trains on the rails and on the move.
No narration, only live audio... the trains to do all the talking. Sub titles are included to give additional detail where required. Native video footage encoded from Analogue, Digital and HD video sources.
