1522 Peach Blossom Special                                     58 min                         VVP 001                     $36.00

1994 was a tumultuous year for the Norfolk Southern steam program. The 1994 NRHS convention was held in Atlanta, and featured what turned out to be the last great showing of the Norfolk Southern steam program. This video features the spectacular journey of Frisco No. 1522 from St. Louis to the Atlanta convention, including the fabulous double-header with N&W No. 611 from Birmingham to Atlanta. The 1522 was noted for its very loud exhaust bark and lovely steamboat whistle. Sadly, this locomotive was recently retired from excursion service, and this trip can never be repeated. N&W 611 was retired in 1994, as seen in our video 611: The Final Excursion. See and hear the 1522 working hard through the Ozarks with a heavy train and no diesels in sight.

In May, 1994, the Pacific Limited Group sponsored the City of Los Angeles excursion train from Salt Lake City to Ontario, CA. Once at Ontario, two "Cajon Pass Steam Special" trips ran to Barstow and return. Valhalla Video was there to record the action from Rainbow Canyon, Nevada to Ontario, the special excursions, and 3985's departure for the trip home. Witness a spectacular start at Lugo as the 3985 struggles to move her heavy train uphill, and thrill to the thundering exhaust as we pace the 3985 heading uphill into Cajon Pass! This is a program you will watch over and over again. Hi-Fi stereo audio with limited narration. Digitally mastered.

611: The Final Excursion                                         56 min                         VVP 003                     $36.00

This program preserves the final chapter in the operating history of Norfolk & Western 4-8-4 J Class locomotive No. 611.  NS announced the end of its steam program, effective with the final excursion of 611 on December 3, 1994.  That cold Fall day afforded spectacular scenes of 611 steaming from Birmingham, AL through hills and valleys to Chattanooga, TN. Two days later 611 left for her ‘ferry trip’ to Roanoke.  See all the action of her last five days under steam, including her arrival in Roanoke flying black flags. Read the poignant inscription on her cab: ‘I am the thoroughbred of steam- Born to run- Born to be free- Forgive them Lord, for they know not what they do!’ No other streamlined steam locomotive can match the sheer power and excitement of the 611, with her throaty whistle and coal-fired smoke. Enjoy the sights and sounds of this beautiful lady of the South over and over again on this DVD, because this is the final excursion! This DVD program features Hi-Fi audio with limited narration.

Taped entirely in California, this program features three exciting steam events from the early 1990's. The AT&SF No. 3751 came out of restoration in in 1991, the SP 2472 ran on the Coast Line between San Francisco and Los Angeles, and the UP 4466 ran at Railfair in Sacramento. And, by a seemingly amazing coincidence, 3751 and 2472 had a historic meet at Mission Tower in Los Angeles on September 17, 1992, and only Valhalla Video was there to record it for posterity. Also, Valhalla’s cameras were present when the 3751 first entered the main line at the Kaiser Steel mill in Fontana after her long restoration. And three months later we pace her going up Cajon Pass pulling a Santa Fe Employee Recognition Special. The 2472 is shown between San Luis Obispo and Los Angeles on its historic trip. And finally we see the UP 4466 coal-fired 0-6-0 with a slope-back tender operating on the Sacramento Southern as part of Railfair ‘91 at the California Railroad Museum in Sacramento.
