D 254 UNION PACIFIC SUPERPOWER
[DVD-R]
60 min
$48.00
It's the dawn of a new era for the Union Pacific Railroad. With the
merger of the Union Pacific and the Chicago & North Western and then the
Southern pacific, including the Rio Grande, the Union Pacific has become a new
Super Railroad.
The new railroad needs new Superpower and General Electric is happy to oblige
with the powerful AC60CW, which generates an incredible 6000 horsepower. This
new engine joins other super engines such as the 4,380 horsepower GE C44AC, the
4000 horsepower EMD SD70M and other powerful engines. The old 'Wing's nose
herald has returned and is seen on many units.
A variety of power hauls long heavy freights over the UP's busy Nebraska
mainline, across the green countryside and picturesque tank towns with their
towering grain elevators. This fast paced journey begins at Lodge Pole, NE and
works eastward to North Platte and beyond.

D 256 HOT SPOTS 7 – DOLTON [DVD-R]
90 min
$43.00
Highball Productions.
Dolton Junction is located about 23 miles south of Chicago's loop. The joint
Union Pacific/CSX line crosses the Indiana Harbor Belt and CSX. To the west is
the IHB's Blue Island yard with a bridge carrying the Illinois Central over the
Belt. The Pennsy's former 'Panhandle' line is abandoned south of the junction
and these days sees little traffic north of the junction, primarily the 'Bottle
Train' carrying molten steel. The CSX line to Barr Yard is the former Baltimore
& Ohio, Chicago Terminal. The UP and CSX south of the junction was formally the
Chicago & Eastern Illinois. Our location is the southeast corner of the diamond.
See two days of trains and get a look inside the tower. There are many paint
schemes from the four major railroads, plus Canadian Pacific, SOO and the IHB.

Continuing our very popular winter theme, we visited Marias Pass in January,
2002. Heavy snow and 70 m.p.h. winds marked our visit, and BNSF celebrated by
dumping a westbound intermodal off the bridge at East Glacier on the Saturday
night. We taped some of the cleanup work on Sunday morning, and caught the first
train to pass the wreck. Lots of dash 9's in both Heritage schemes, and a number
of warbonnets, plus SD40-2's, including some still wearing Cascade Green. Taped
between Blackfoot and West Glacier, all the favorite locations including Two
Medicine Bridge, Spotted Robe, Bison, False Summit, Marias, Java, and Essex, and
the weather goes from sunshine to heavy snow. Colour ~ Hifi sound ~ Narrated

GONE FOREVER MONTREAL's ALCOS [DVD-R]
70 min
$43.00
Highball Productions
Many things are gone from the Montreal rail scene. The big (and small) Alco's and MLW's, Via F's, FPA4's and LRC's, commuter F's, flags, open auto racks, cabooses and hooping up orders. This is a much requested redo of our very first program, Montreal's Alco's, completely re-edited with some never before seen footage. Taped around the Montreal area in 1988 and 1989, these are never to be repeated scenes of big Alco's, every train, even intermodals, with a caboose, and most flying flags. The image quality is not as good as today's broadcast digital, but you can't go out and see this stuff!
D 289
CURTIS HILL [DVD-R]
90 min
$45.00
Highball Productions
Not a typical place to spend your vacation but a great place to go railfanning. There are great views on the East and West slopes of Curtis Hill showing mainly double, triple and four locomotive headed trains with mixed manifests or intermodals climbing the grade to Curtis summit. The shrill cry of the rock swallows (which nest in the red clay cliffs) and the sound of the trains themselves is the only sounds to disturb the tranquil green countryside. But the trains just keep coming, up to 60 a day use the hill, often in fleets. Although the East slope was made doubletrack and its curves eased the west slope is only now being upgraded to doubletrack. So Curtis Hill, Oklahoma, is still a bottleneck on the BNSF's former Santa Fe transcontinental main line between Chicago and Los Angeles, but not for much longer. Colour ~ Narration ~ Sound

Colourful pool power, helpers and great train pacing plus all the heavy, colourful action in a beautiful mountain setting. See power-heavy 100 car coal trains with 9 ACs battling the high altitude and steep grades like you'll never see again. THIS HISTORICAL ROYAL GORGE ROUTE WAS ABANDONED IN SEPTEMBER OF 1997. This movie was there to capture the last months of operation. Coal, Manifest and merchandise trains all run by the two cameras on a journey from Pueblo to Dotsero, Colorado where the line joins with the Moffat Route. We also show early the history of regional narrow and standard gauge development and explain the DRGW operating strategies right to the end of operation. A surprise includes a solid segment on surviving DRGW power on the Southern Pacific system into the late 90's. Included are GP-30, SD-50s, SD45s, and sets of DRGW SD45T-2's pulling on steep grades. The Tennessee Pass line is closed for now but you can relive all the action in this critically acclaimed beautifully filmed documentary.

$51.00
Highball Productions
We set off in October, 2004, to look for what’s
left of the Wisconsin Central after the Canadian National takeover, and this is
what we found. CN seems intent on obliterating the WC & IC, but we found a few
units still in WC paint, albeit a bit shabby. We followed the line from Rugby
Junction to Fond du Lac, spending some time on the now double tracked Byron
Hill, up to Winnebago and across to Stevens Point and on to Junction City.

BA Productions
Witness unprecidented bonechilling footage of whiteout conditions as the Spreader blazes over the Sierra shoving large amounts of snow from the rails clearing the way for freight traffic.
The Union Pacific's Conner Summit line crosses the Sierra Nevada at over seven thousand feet. Keeping this ‘All Season Pass’ open is vital to the railroad and California's economy. When the snow gets too high for the Flangers to remove snow from the rails, the second line of defence is called into action. The Spreader is deployed to remove large amounts of snow from the mainline and shove it off banks and bridges clearing the path for new snow to fall. With the nose blade down, the wings extended and a little speed, the Spreader will move a mountain of snow. Harsh winters, temperatures well below freezing, snow falling forty eight inches in a single day and up to sixty five feet a year, have long been an obstacle to keeping trains rolling over the Sierra. Learn some of the amazing history of Norden, Southern Pacific's former snow removal headquarters. D 331 PENN CENTRAL 3 [DVD-R] 75 min $52.00
Green Frog
HERITAGE SERIES FROM THE CAMERA OF EMERY GULASH
Things were a
little different on the Penn Central during every one of the eight years of its
brief existence. By mid 1971, nearly all the locomotives of the predecessor
Pennsylvania and New York Central railroads had been repainted into sombre dark
Brunswick green. The railroad was mired deeper and deeper in bankruptcy, as a
new national rail passenger carrier, Amtrak, was starting to emerge from the
dark shadows of the PC’s paint scheme following its launching on May 1st, 1971.
Emery Gulash had his movie cameras trained on the rail action. He starts with a
series of scenes in America’s Railroad Capital, Chicago, as Amtrak and Penn
Central trains burnish the rails in and out of Union Station. The old Michigan
Central depot at Detroit serves as an anchor for Emery, as he returns again and
again from his travels to photograph trains at the formidable structure.
Amtrak demonstrates its United Aircraft Turbotrain at Niles and Kalamazoo.
Toledo comes in for its share of pulsating train operations, as do Ypsilanti,
Dearborn, Jackson, Chelsea, New Buffalo, Ann Arbor, Westland, and Delphi Mills,
Michigan. Our very full program winds up with scenes of two special passenger
trains operated in November 1972 by the Chessie System for General Motors
executives, bound for a business conference in West Virginia. Colour /

Chandos Television
A tale of two railways, and the history of rail operations in Canada's Ottawa Valley.
The story of how the railways of the Ottawa Valley developed over the past 140 years. Ride with the crews of today's trains working through the valley on the Ottawa Valley Rail Link and the Ottawa Central Railway and learn the history of the railways in this part of Canada. Its conception and building are discussed and we learn that originally it was built to 5ft 6in gauge and was converted to the standard 4ft 81/2 inch gauge by 300 men in a single day! To help efficiency during the war, block signalling was introduced but not completed until 1947. As we continue to watch the working day on the current line, we learn of mergers and how the railway is run today e.g. we see units being isolated, whilst running, for fuel efficiency - they are reconnected when extra power is needed for grades etc. This is a fascinating insight into the working of the line and the winter snow gives an added zest leaving us with a real feeling for, and understanding of, railroading in this part of Canada. Much more than just a runby program.

The Bakersfield Yard scenes are compared from 1993 and way back in 1971. See old ALCO and EMD power in SP’s finest days when units were clean and without graffiti.

D 345 Santa Fe Vintage West [DVD-R] 94 min $50.00
Charles Smiley
We bring back the Santa Fe with great action in many Southern California locations. This parade of power over the decades is a tribute to one of the most popular western railroads of all time. The scenes are taken from old movie film shot by many railfans. The material from the early 90s was shot on video before the end of the Santa Fe as an independent company. The paint schemes shown are all the phases from the early black with white stripes and beautiful passenger F-units with freight bluebonnet power and the later yellow bonnets.
*1950s-94 *Tehachapi *Cajon Pass *Needles Sub *Stockton *Eastbay
The segment of the 90s shows a revival of the red & silver ‘Warbonnet’ theme that the Santa Fe used to
reclaim all the public recognition that their service deserved. Many of the scenes were selected from our retired footage on Cajon, Tehachapi and the Needles Subdivision. They represent a composite of the very best pre-merger Santa Fe scenes shot with multiple cameras. It's really amazing that the Santa Fe has been gone for over a decade now. We hope this title will renew your interest in her.

The Midwest is full of railroad action with Short Lines, Regionals, and the big Class One's! In this volume we first travel to southeastern Nebraska. Here we capture Union Pacific trains in and around the
community of Davenport. Trains led with C44AC-CTE's, SD90-43AC's and SD-60M's are seen travelling through this scenic section of the UP's Marysville Subdivision. Then it's off to western Minnesota. On the border of Fargo, North Dakota is the city of Moorhead. It is here that the BNSF's KO and Prosper Subdivisions join at a point called Moorhead Junction. This busy spot hosts numerous BNSF trains on a daily basis. Along with main line freights and coal trains, many yard jobs and transfers use this junction to get to and from the large yard in the adjacent town of Dilworth, MN. From rebuilt GP-30's to the new SD-70ACe's, you will be treated to some great BNSF trains at this location! Finally, we head a little further north to catch the action on a newly formed shoreline. The Dakota Northern operates over ex-BNSF tracks from Grafton to Walhalla, North Dakota. We capture this line only months after its birth to watch as rebuilt GP-10's take care of moving grain, potatoes, coal and ethanol. The railroad even treated us to adding the Minnesota Northern's caboose to the train! Awesome mainline action, diverse Short Lines and Regionals make the Midwest one of the best places to watch trains.
