Australia's Oldest Operating Steam Locomotive

The main focus of this award winning film by the late Brian Witte, is Queensland's A10 No.6; the oldest operating steam locomotive in Australia.

PROGRAM 1 - AUSTRALIA'S OLDEST OPERATING STEAM LOCOMOTIVE
Built in 1865 by Neilson & Company of Glasgow, and restored by volunteers of the ARHS in 1991, the program starts with one of several tours between Brisbane and Ipswich, with footage taken from another train running parallel, hauled by PB15 class steam locomotive No. 732 built in 1926. The little locomotive is next seen being taken 2000 kilometres north to Cairns to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the opening of the spectacular Cairns-Kuranda Railway. At Cairns, we see the regular tourist trains and two steam engines double heading a special train up the Barron Gorge, followed by the A10 on excursions west of Kuranda as part of the '100 Days to Celebrate 100 Years' festival.

PROGRAM 2 - SEVEN STEAM ENGINES IN NORTH QUEENSLAND
In 1991 there were nine steam locos operating tourist services in North Queensland, and we visit the Balleyhooley Railway at Mossman, the Mulgrave Rambler at Gordonvale and ride a private excursion behind the little A10 up the Cairns Range, with all the photo stops one could want! At Ravenshoe we visit the Railco preserved steam railway with its restored D17 tank loco converted to a tender type engine.

PROGRAM 3 - NORTH QUEENSLAND RAILMOTOR TOUR OCTOBER 1983
We then jump back to 1983 to ride the Ravenshoe Railmotor to the now closed end of the track. We pass the now inaccessible Carrington falls and the 1000 metre long Herberton tunnel.
