Northern Mexico Rails
In 1991, Pentrex set out to explore the fascinating operations of the Mexican railway system, seeking to
discover what type of equipment our southern neighbors used and how they ran their railroads. There was
so much of interest to record that we were able to present multiple video releases. Now Pentrex is proud
to present Volume 1, featuring the railroads of northern Mexico.
Every freight train runs with a caboose in the world of Mexico rails in the early 1990s. It’s a place
where the art of telegraphy is still practiced as an essential means of communication. It’s a land where
railway express is a thriving business. What seems odd to us is standard here. You’ll see former Katy
GP40s pulling passenger trains in direct contrast with new General Electric Super Sevens working on high
priority trains.
Climb aboard the engine of a local passenger train and experience breathtaking views as the train grinds
up seventeen miles of 3 percent grade. This ride is simply exhilarating! Your train adventures will take
you into some of the most remote and beautiful locations in the country. It’s an amazing trip that
highlights the differences and the similarities of railroading on Mexico’s northern rails!
