Narrow Gauge Rail Action in Western Australia - Volume 1
Train Pictures

Southern Regions - Extended Version

In this volume you will see alumna trains as they pass through Brunswick junction on the Southwest main making their way between the Alcoa Refineries and the port of Bunbury. See caustic trains as they take their load to the Alcoa refineries at Wagerup and Hamilton and then their return trip back to Bunbury after unloading.

On the Great Southern Railway watch the grain trains as they work in and out of Albany. The grain trains travel the section of the GSR between Wagin and Albany. Once at Wagin they head out along the Lake Grace line to the many CBH facilities including Hyden and Newdegate branch.

Based at Albany is the Woodchipper and we follow as it makes its way to and from the mill located at Mirambeena and the port of Albany a distance of 27km`s by rail. See rare scenes of two DD class locos 2357 and 2359 working on the train plus shots of the NJ, P and DBZ class also working the woodchip train.

There are various clips of the two ZB class 2125 and 2129 working the narrow gauge ballast train into Albany. RA212 can also be seen working the rail fleet between Kendenup and Albany, the first time RA212 visited Albany. There is a brief view of D49 on the standard gauge ballast train dropping ballast on the main line at Midland. The three classes listed here belong to South Spur, which is owned by Cootes Industrial.

The Prospector which travels between Perth and Kalgoorlie makes an appearance as it departs Midland station while shortly after the Avon Link arrives at Midland from Northam. Trans WA operates both these trains. Technical information on all the locomotives shown is detailed within the presentation.

The Railway Collection - Combo Box 1
Train Pictures

Three Great Titles in One Collectors Edition Box Set

New Zealand Locomotives
Take a ride back in time to the 1960s and view the transition from steam to diesel power on the New Zealand Government Railways. Noted railway photographer Ron Harris takes us through this period with rare footage, audio recordings and photographs he produced when working as an engine driver for the railway. We ride on the footplate of steam and diesel locomotives as they travel over now closed branch lines hauling fast freight and excursion specials. This rare footage has been digitally converted from the original 8mm movie reel. All audio tracks have been specially prepared from analogue recordings made during the same period. The many historical photographs and technical notes on steam locomotives make this video a must for every railfan. Climb aboard the time train.

Just Northern Rivers Railroad and the Murwillumbah Line
See and hear the locomotives hard at work on this scenic branch line in the far north of New South Wales. We view trains operated by the NRR in conjunction with FreightCorp, powered by GM 421 and 49 class locomotives during 1998. See NRR 422 class with an EL class General Electric on the now defunct Rozelle branch in Sydney. View the “Ritz Rail” tourist train just prior to its shutdown in 2002. Analogue video flashback to 1987 showing Alco 442 class on the State Rail “Gold Coast Motorail Express”. Subtitles brief the viewer along with a narration, added over the top of less sensitive train sounds. The feature of two audio sound tracks means you can choose to listen to the natural train sound only, without the narration. We are sure that you will enjoy “Just Northern Rivers Railroad & The Murwillumbah Line” by Greg Travers, the seventh production in the “Just Trains” series from Train Pictures.

Trans-Siberian Experience
To travel on the Trans Siberian Express, one of the world’s longest rail journeys in the heart of winter is a sensational experience. It allows us to visit exotic destinations free of summer crowds. Absorb the raw beauty of the so-far unspoiled Gobi Desert and sample such delights as a Christmas day sleigh ride through a snowy Siberian forest and 2008 New Year’s Eve in Moscow’s Red Square. The journey takes us from Beijing to Helsinki over 25 days and a veritable feast of rolling stock including the ubiquitous Chinese-built DF4 locomotives, Russian VLs and Czech Skoda ChS7s, service the once forbidden 9000 km journey. The surprises are endless from the remarkable bogie changing on the Chinese border to Stalin’s underground palaces in the Moscow Metro. So climb aboard and escape with us on this once in a lifetime voyage, which stretches a quarter-way around the globe.

The Complete History of American Railroads
Marshall Publishing

Part One – A WILD AND IMPRACTICAL SCHEME (1800 – 1845)
In 1845 John Stevens obtained a charter form the New Jersey legislature to build the first steam railroad in America, but he could not get financial backing because no one believed it could be done. However, eventually the concept caught on and investors realized that trains would become faster, cheaper, and could haul more freight than any other type of transportation. Although the steam locomotive was originally invented in England, by 1830 America’s first locomotive, “Tom Thumb” made its first trial run for America’s first chartered railroad, The Baltimore and Ohio.

Part Two – ONE NATION…INDIVISIBLE (1845 – 1865)
By the 1850’s railroads were not only capturing the eyes of savvy businessmen, they were capturing the hearts of the people as well…bright-colored engines with fancy scrollwork, billowing smoke and hard-driving wheels, shrill whistles, and memories of trips to friends and relatives. Railroads determined the location of towns, opened new lands to the West, and were a vital factor in the outcome of the Civil War.

Part Three – TRANSCONTINENTAL EXPANSION (1865 – 1880)
For years people dreamed of the time when trains would reach the Pacific Ocean. It would enhance trade with California and the Orient. The Union Pacific began building west from Omaha, the Central Pacific east from Sacramento. But there were problems…weather, lack of money and labor, mountains, rivers, deserts, and Indian raids. However, after the Civil War, investment money was abundant for rail expansion including land grants, and payment of immigrant, former slave, and Chinese labor. On May 10, 1869, at Promontory Summit, Utah, a golden spike joined east and west by rail!

Part Four – THE GOLDEN AGE (1880 – 1916)
By 1900 five different railroads had reached the Pacific Ocean, and between the Atlantic and Pacific America’s vast landscapes were being connected by a spider web of rails. For railroads there was no competition. No industry dominated the American scene, or so touched every aspect of American life, as did the railroad during its Golden Age. For railroads it was a time of major improvements including the telegraph, air brakes, bridge building, automatic couplers, standardized time zones and track gauge, and bigger and more powerful locomotives. During this time, George Pullman improved the comfort of passenger travel while Fred Harvey developed cross country restaurants to serve the needs of weary travelers.
